For over 20 years the business has grown into an industry leader for the design and manufacture of innovative engineering solutions worldwide. They have consistently turned challenges into opportunities that give customers practical and workable solutions.  Following a recent transaction, the business is now poised for significant international growth and an opportunity has arisen for a Head of Operations to play a leading role in their continuing global development and success.


Role Profile for Head of Operations


We are looking for an experienced Head of Operations who can build on the current excellent reputation whilst ensuring that the business can achieve rapid sustainable growth. The function includes but not limited to; manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, procurement, production scheduling, maintenance, asset management, quality, health safety and environment. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership with a coaching and mentoring approach ensuring employees are inspired and motivated to reach their full potential.


Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head of Operations will deliver results through strategic management processes. The successful candidate will ensure that the Operations function can deliver the planned ramp up in customer sales whilst achieving quality of product and improved profitability in a safe environment for all employees.


Job specification

  • To structure, organize, recruit, lead, train and manage a high performing team that enables the business to achieve is growth aspirations of doubling sales to £14m over the next 4 years
  • You will have P&L responsibilities for the operations unit that include improving GM by 10% over the next 4 years
  • You will improve lead times
  • To identify, measure and manage the department through agreed KPI’s
  • To develop a continuous improvement culture with a core focus on driving profitability through productivity improvements, supply chain management and proactive purchasing activities
  • Motivate and engage operational teams, particularly during times of business change and project delivery
  • Define and create a working culture based on ownership and accountability and that prides itself on quality, EH&S and customer service excellence
  • Work with the executive team to introduce and drive new initiatives to achieve the company growth plans
  • To contribute to the successful and timely launch of new products and support special project activities
  • Consistently challenge the status quo and have a quest for seeking new and better ways of working including process flow, innovation and the use of new technology




Candidate profile

  1. You will have a proven track record of multi-discipline management and can demonstrate sound commercial knowledge 
  2. Previous experience in a similar role at senior level combined with the ability to implement change management systems 
  3. A strong financial understanding, demonstrating excellent people management skills, decision making, organisation and planning are fundamental to this position 
  4. Competent process management knowledge
  5. Excellent communication skills, self- motivation and a positive attitude 
  6. Strong operational experience from manufacturing processes, supply chain, material management, planning, warehouse, inventory management, customer service and people management.
  7. Strong general management experience to develop strong leaders who work well in a teamwork environment
  8. Analytical and problem-solving skills
  9. Ability to negotiate and influence
  10. Solid organisational skills
  11. Has the drive and passion to achieve and likes to celebrate success with the team
  12. Lack of ego
  13. Considers risk when looking at change and is able to effectively assess risks and articulate them to enable business decisions to be made
  14. Willing to go the extra mile, with the team when the business needs it

Educated to degree level

A minimum of 3 Years’ experience in a similar role

Evidence of Continuous professional development activities e.g Lean manufacturing, six Sigma, Quality, Health Safety & Environmental
